MELISSA PENNETT

Melissa is a hospitality leader with more than 20 years of experience across luxury hotels, chef-driven restaurants, and large-scale food and beverage operations in major hospitality markets, including New York City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and, most recently, San Francisco. As Director of Operations for Backal Hospitality Group, Melissa oversees operations in the South San Francisco region, focusing on operational excellence, team development, and elevated guest experiences.

Melissa began her hospitality career on the East Coast, working in New York City and New Jersey. Seeking to broaden her experience, she later moved to Las Vegas to explore the casino and resort sector, working within renowned properties including Mandalay Bay and Wynn, where she gained experience in high-volume banquet and event operations serving large conferences and special events.

She later transitioned to Los Angeles, expanding her career across both the hotel and chef-driven restaurant sectors. Her hotel experience includes leadership roles with Mama Shelter Hotel, Thompson Hotel, Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, and, most recently, InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.

At InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, Melissa most recently oversaw the Food & Beverage department across seven outlets and the hotel’s banquet operations, helping develop strategic initiatives to enhance performance and guest experience across venues, including Spire73, La Boucherie, Lobby Lounge, Club Lounge, In-Room Dining, Minibar, and the Pool Restaurant.

Known for her hands-on leadership style and deep understanding of hospitality operations, Melissa is passionate about building strong teams and creating memorable guest experiences across every touchpoint of the hospitality journey.
